Receipt Arbitrage — Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 20, 2026 (updated for version 1.1.0)
Receipt Arbitrage ("the app") helps you track purchases from your receipts and spot price drops. This policy explains what the app does with your information.
No account, no sign-in
The app does not require an account. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or location. Subscriptions are tied to your Google Play account, which Google manages.
Camera and receipt photos
The app asks for camera permission only so you can photograph receipts. Receipt text is read with optical character recognition (OCR) that runs entirely on your device. Photos are not uploaded to us or to any third party.
Data stored on your device
Receipts, line items and price-watch results are saved only in the app's local storage on your phone. We have no server copy. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes this information permanently.
Price checks
To check current prices, the app sends the item name (and UPC, if known) from your receipt to our price-lookup service at receipt-arbitrage.pages.dev, which asks Best Buy (official Products API), Walmart and Target for matching products and returns the matched product name, price and link. Only the item name/UPC is sent: no receipt photo, store, date, amount paid or personal information. Lookups may be cached for about an hour to reduce load; we do not keep logs tied to you. Amazon prices are not checked live. When a store blocks our direct lookup, the item name is passed to our data provider Apify (apify.com) to fetch that store’s public search results; Apify receives only the search text.
No selling, no ads, no tracking
We do not sell or share your data, show ads, or use analytics or tracking SDKs.
Premium subscription (Google Play)
Receipt Arbitrage Premium is an optional monthly subscription sold through Google Play Billing. Google processes the payment; we never see your card details. The app receives from Google only a purchase record (product ID, purchase status, renewal/expiry and an anonymous purchase token) so it can unlock Premium on your device. The subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. See Google's privacy policy for how Google handles billing data.
Service fee on recovered refunds (if offered)
If the refund service fee is available in your version of the app, you may save a card with our payment processor, Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe's own secure page and are never stored in the app or on our servers. When you confirm in the app that a refund or price adjustment has been paid to you, we send Stripe the amount you report and the 30% fee so your saved card can be charged. We keep a record of the receipt reference, amounts, date and charge status for accounting and dispute purposes. Retailers pay refunds directly to you; we never receive or hold your money. See stripe.com/privacy.
Claims
You file price-adjustment and refund requests with retailers yourself. The app only contacts a retailer for a claim if you explicitly authorize it for that claim.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes (for example, if new features are added), we will update this page and the effective date before the change takes effect.
